Editorial Policy
How WizeBudget creates, checks, sources and updates its UK mortgage, tax and property-cost content.
What WizeBudget is for
WizeBudget publishes free general-information calculators and guides for UK home buyers, homeowners, landlords and employees. The purpose is to make assumptions and basic mathematics easier to understand. It is not a lender, tax adviser, law firm, accountant or regulated mortgage adviser, and it does not provide personalised recommendations.
Our source hierarchy
For rates, thresholds and statutory rules, we prefer primary public sources. The current financial-rate register links to HMRC and GOV.UK for Income Tax, National Insurance and SDLT; Revenue Scotland for LBTT; Welsh Government for LTT; and the FCA for mortgage-affordability context.
How calculator assumptions are presented
Where an input is not a statutory rate or a universal lender rule, WizeBudget labels it as an illustrative assumption and, where useful, lets you change it. For example, the buy-to-let calculator displays the stress rate and ICR it uses; the mortgage affordability calculator presents an income-multiple range rather than a guaranteed lending outcome.
Review and testing
Core financial-rate configuration was last checked on 2026-08-13. We review it when a published tax year changes, a government authority updates a rate, or a material calculation error is identified. Calculation functions are covered by regression tests for tax thresholds, National Insurance, SDLT, LBTT, LTT, mortgage repayment, buy-to-let rental coverage and Lifetime ISA caps before updates are published.
Corrections and feedback
If you find an error, missing qualification or out-of-date source, please contact WizeBudget with the page URL and an official source where possible. We assess material corrections against primary guidance and update visible source or review information when a change is made.
Commercial independence
Where advertising or affiliate links are shown, they should be distinguishable from editorial content. Commercial relationships do not change calculator assumptions, source selection or whether a factual correction is made.
